What is Harbor Heights VPO?
The Harbor Heights VPO (Volunteer Parent Organization) is similar to a PTA, but with one important difference—membership is free. As a nonprofit, the VPO does not charge dues. An elected board of six parents provides oversight, but all Harbor Heights families are invited and encouraged to get involved.
The VPO makes a big impact at Harbor Heights by funding, organizing, and running many of the enrichment programs and events that students enjoy each year, including:
- After-School Enrichment – Partnering with programs like Snapology to bring fun and educational opportunities beyond the classroom.
- Boo Bash & Spring Event – 100% volunteer-run celebrations that double as fundraisers to support other VPO programs.
- Harbor Hikers & Fun Run – Kicked off with a school-wide Fun Run, this program encourages kids to stay active by tracking laps on the HHES track during recess and earning collectible “Feet” for their bracelets. It also ties into “Walk/Roll/Run a Mile Day,” led by PE teacher Mr. Rucci.
- Movie Nights – Twice a year, families gather for a discounted evening at the movies.
- Read & Lead – A literacy program where students and mentors read together from February to March, earning prizes along the way. Those who meet their goals receive an engraved medal and are honored at a school assembly.
- Spell-a-thon – The VPO’s largest fundraiser of the year, providing funding for programs and events throughout the school year.
- Restaurant Takeovers – Local restaurants give back to Harbor Heights by donating a percentage of sales on designated nights.
- Teacher Grants – Funding that helps teachers purchase classroom materials or support special projects with their students.
- Theater Program – A partnership with Missoula Children’s Theatre, giving students a week-long experience in rehearsing and performing a full play.
Together, these programs enrich the student experience, build community, and make Harbor Heights a joyful place to learn and grow.d put on a full play.
